Упражнение 1: Определение адъективных оборотов

Подчеркните в каждом из нижеследующих предложений адъективный оборот.

Например People living in a foreign country face many problems.

"Living in a foreign country" - это оборот, представляющий собой свернутое придаточное определительное. Он был образован посредством усечения придаточного определительного "who are living in a foreign country."

1. Passengers suffering from the heat on warm summer days should close the windows if the air-conditioning is to work effectively.

2. Bookworms can browse through or buy from a large selection of the literature on display at the book festival.

3. The fifteenth-century mystery plays first revived in 1951 in York are performed every four years at St. Mary's Abbey.

4. Leaflets giving full details of the program are available at the information desk.

5. The tough palm fiber used in the street-sweeping machines is piassava.

6. Local people consenting to help erect the building were promised a lifetime membership to the museum.

7. For towns in remote areas, the airplane is the only means of external communication.

Упражнение 2: Придаточное определительное Vs. свернутое придаточное определительное

Подчеркните адъективный оборот и/или придаточное определительное в каждом из предложенных ниже предложений. После этого напишите букву "C", если предложение содержит придаточное определительное, или букву "P", если в нем есть адъективный оборот. Если же в предложении есть и придаточное определительное, и свернутое придаточное определительное, напишите "Р/С."

Примеры The bone that he broke was the clavicle. (C)
The hills seemed like mountains rising from the gentle expanse. (P)
The world's first jigsaw puzzles, which appeared in the 1760s, were cut up maps intended to help children learn geography.

В первом предложении лингвистическая единица "that he broke"' является придаточным определительным, так как содержит подлежащее и сказуемое.

Во втором предложении "rising form the gentle expanse" представляет собой адъективный оборот, являющийся "сокращенной версией" придаточного определительного "which were rising from the gentle expanse".

В последнем предложении представлены как придаточное определительное ("which appeared in the 1760s"), так и адъективный оборот ("intended to help children learn geography").
