Упражнение 1: Определение именных придаточных.

Например:

that book was very interesting (noun clause/independent clause) – оба варианта верны. Это предложение может выступать как зависимое, так и независимое.

that the book was on the table (noun clause/independent clause) - это именное придаточное (см. предыдущий урок).

where is the book (noun clause/independent clause) - это предложение независимое.

1. that he is a good actor (noun clause/independent clause)

2. whichever program you prefer (noun clause/independent clause)

3. that crisis happened only a few years ago (noun clause/independent clause)

4. who is he (noun clause/independent clause)

5. whose house is across the street (noun clause/independent clause)

6. where she lives (noun clause/independent clause)

7. when are you going (noun clause/independent clause)

8. that picture was in the library (noun clause/independent clause)

Упражнение 2: Определение функций именных придаточных.

Подчеркните именное придаточное. Если оно используется как подлежащее, напишите в скобках букву S (subject). Если как дополнение - букву O (object).

Examples That most fast-food meals are high in fat (S) has become an increasing concern.

It is easy to understand why fast-food restaurants are so popular. (O)

1. How the buildings are constructed to keep their inhabitants cool is one of the most striking aspects of the Bahraini architecture.

2. What the doctor advised was a vacation away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

3. When the city of Rome was actually founded is a matter of dispute among historians.

4. Marie Curie showed that a woman can be as good a scientist as a man can be.

5. The general decided which troops were to be moved.

6. By the latest accounts, what really occurred during the fight was censored by the government.

7. The president told the youths that their journey was a noteworthy achievement.

8. That the city has lost its charm in its zeal to modernize is a common perception.

Упражнение 3: Найдите подлежащее и сказуемое в независимом предложении.

Группу подлежажих следует поставить в кавычки, а сказуемое - подчеркнуть.

Например: (That lightning is electrical in nature) was suggested by Benjamin Franklin.

1. That rent control laws inhibit landlords from repairing properties is unfortunate, but true.

2. Sophia realized that the experience caused her to see her world differently.

3. How glass is blown in a cylinder was demonstrated at the Stuart Crystal factory.

4. A top architect lamented that cultural uniqueness has been replaced by international sameness.
