Сегодня наше практическое занятие посвящено обстоятельственным придаточным и глагольным формам, которые в них используются.

Упражнение 1: Определите, правильно ли употреблена глагольная форма?

Проверьте, в правильной ли форме стоит сказуемое обстоятельственного придаточного. Если она неверна, зачеркните ее, предложив свой вариант.

Например: Even though the team of scientists ~~encounter~~ (encountered) snow and strong winds, they continued their excavation.

В этом предложении глагол должен стоять в прошедшем времени, ведь необходимо согласование со сказуемым главного предложения "continued."

1. As dusk settling, fireflies begin to signal.

2. If the Italian authorities hadn't took measures to control the smuggling of national treasures, many Roman artifacts would have been lost.

3. Sixteenth-century mariners called Bermuda the "Isle of Devils'" partly because breeding seabirds are making horrid sounds in the night.

4. As the numbers of shellfish diminished in the shallow waters, the divers were forced to dive deeper.

5. NASA does not quarantine space crews, since returning astronauts have carried no harmful agents or living organisms.

6. Whenever privateering falls off, the natives rearranged beacons to lure ships onto the reefs.

7. While students practice doctoring a plastic automated mannequin, the instructor uses a computer to vary the mannequin's reactions.

8. When a key pressed, a series of levers opens the hole in the pipe and air is pumped through.

Упражнение 2: Выберите правильный вариант из четырех предложенных.

"As though" говорит о том, что придаточное обстоятельственное относится к типу придаточных образа действия. Варианты (B), (C) и (D) представляют собой придаточные уступки.
